Barracuda Networks Inc., owned by private equity firm KKR & Co Inc. since April, today announced several new capabilities to assist customers with cyberthreats and digital transformation.
Announced at Barracuda’s Secured.22 customer conference, the new capabilities are designed to protect against persistent and evolving threats such as ransomware and help customers solve complex digital business transformation challenges in email protection, zero trust access, managed extended detection and response, and data protection.
Leading the announcements, Baraccuda has added zero-trust security access to its CloudGen Access product to protect users no matter where they work. The product addresses the rise of hybrid and remote working by providing secure access for employees and contractors, which are a challenge for many businesses.
Email protection from Barracuda also now has zero-trust access, hardening the Microsoft 365 environment by continuously verifying and allowing only the right users to access the right resources. The new capabilities allow customers to control and manage access to email systems and Microsoft 365 applications on a need-to-know basis, providing an additional layer of security for their businesses.
XDR is now integrated with Barracuda CloudGen Firewall, giving managed service providers access to visibility and insights through 24×7 security operation center services. The addition is said to increase efficiency by reducing product silos, mitigating alert fatigue and streamlining the management of their customers’ environments.
Data protection is now transactable with Barracuda Cloud-to-Cloud Backup in Azure Marketplace. Barracuda’s Data Protection business has seen strong growth, with new business sales up 30% year-over-year and the extension to Azure Marketplace allows customers and channel partners to take advantage of simplified and streamlined procurement and deployment processes. Barracuda’s Cloud-to-Cloud Backup delivers a fast search and restore experience for Microsoft 365 data, including Teams, Exchange Online, SharePoint and OneDrive.
“With the explosive increase in the usage of Microsoft 365 apps, a modern cloud-native approach is required for protection,” Tim Jefferson, senior vice president of engineering and product management for data, networks and application security at Barracuda, said in a statement. “Barracuda Cloud-to-Cloud Backup is built and runs natively in the cloud, which enables fast set up, simple management, and no maintenance for Microsoft 365 apps.”
Jefferson, along with Barracuda Vice President of Zero Trust Sinan Eren (pictured), spoke with theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, in July. They discussed the challenges involved in securing industrial networks and Barracuda’s focus on zero trust at the edge.
“People realize it’s not just laptops and devices you are trying to secure,” Jefferson said in the interview. “Now it’s refrigerators and robots and manufacturing floors. This is a huge increase in surface area. So many different devices and things and objects are getting connected now, and it creates a huge challenge for security teams to get their arms around that.”
