Editorial Mission: As the Department’s primary publication, we aim to live up to the meaning of ha‘aheo – to cherish with pride – by bolstering and sustaining pride in public education and touting the successes happening across our system.
Pearl City and ‘Aiea High School students will have the opportunity to earn high-value certifications under an exciting new collaborative effort to train, upskill and certify students in cloud computing skills.
The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education and the University of Hawaiʻi System are excited to partner with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to help train educators and prepare students for internships, apprenticeships and pathways to additional cloud skills training.
“It gives us a step up above other students and other people going into the workforce,” Pearl City High School senior Xander Engelman said.
This collaborative effort aims to establish a workforce talent pipeline from high school through higher education, with a short-term goal of training and certifying 150 learners by 2025. Learn more here.

This year’s theme, Reading Journeys, highlights a tour of locations around the world. As readers log their minutes, they will earn virtual badges representing destinations along their tour. The goal is for all participating readers to collectively accumulate 8 million logged reading minutes by the end of the school year. To get started, visit the #808Reads website at http://808Reads.hidoe.us.
