YONKERS, N.Y. — Students in Westchester County‘s biggest city were back in the classroom on Tuesday.
The mayor of Yonkers and other local leaders visited classrooms at School 30 in the morning as students settled in.
Tuesday was the first day for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

School officials say this year is about unity and support with parents, teachers and community coming together to support students.
“Every student needs a champion, so those of you out there, we are open for business and we are looking for champions for our students,” Yonkers superintendent Dr. Edwin M. Quezada said.
“Parents, get involved. Parents, join your PTAs. If you want to know what’s happening, be part of that school system,” said Robin Brumfield, president of the Yonkers Council of PTAs.
They say their mantra this year is “restoration, renewal and hope.”
