T.E.A.C.H. scholarships offer financial support for tuition and books, release time from work, and bonuses or raises for early childhood teachers who want to work on Associate, Bachelor or Graduate Degrees in early childhood education. The Teacher Loan Forgiveness program is a federally funded program that is intended to encourage individuals to enter and continue in the teaching profession. To qualify for this program, individuals must teach 5 consecutive years in a school that is designated as serving low income families. Forgiveness of federal loans occurs for amounts from $5000 up to $17,500 (for high need areas such as secondary math or science and special education). Learn more >>
The Teacher Loan-for-Service is intended to proactively address New Mexico’s teacher shortage by providing students with the financial resources to complete or enhance their post-secondary teacher preparation education (alternative teacher licensure students also eligible). As a condition of each loan, the student shall declare his/her intent to practice as a teacher in the New Mexico public school system. For every year of service, a portion of the loan will be forgiven. If the entire service agreement is fulfilled, 100% of the loan is eligible for forgiveness. Penalties may be assessed if the service agreement is not satisfied.
